And my beloved friends,

Assalamualaikum  Wrwb.

Good morning/ Good afternoon/Good Evening.

Thanks for the time that given to me.  Let me introduce myself. My name is ..................

I’m from ...................

At this opportunity, I am going to make speech entitle “Preserving Our Cultural Heritage”

Ladies and gentlemen whom we fully respect,

            Indonesia is a very big country with a large area. It is located between two continents:  Asia continent and Australia continent.  It is also located between two oceans: Pacific Ocean and Hindia Ocean. Indonesia consists of 13.667 islands with about 150.000.000 populations.

           

With a big amount of populations who live in different Islands and provinces, Indonesian people have different tribes, different cultures, different religions, and different languages, different songs, difference dances and different traditional houses.

Ladies and gentlemen whom we fully respect,

            There are many tribes such as Java, Bali, Sunda in West Sumatra, Batak in Sumatra, Dayak in Kalimantan, Madura, Maluku, Asmat tribes in Irian Jaya. There are five religions which are allowed by the government: Islam, Christian, Catholic, Hindu and Buddha. Javanese speak Java language. Balinese speak Bali language. People who live at a certain area with their tribes use their own culture to communicate with others.

           

Ladies and gentlemen whom we fully respect,

            Central Java has Gambyong Dance, traditional Joglo house, Ketoprak, puppet, Java language. West Java has Jaipong dance, traditional kasepuhan house and most of the people speak Sunda language. West Sumatra has Lilin  dance, traditional  gadang house and they speak Melayu language. It is said that almost every region or province has its own culture. So, What a rich culture is this country.

           

Ladies and gentlemen whom we fully respect,

            The culture reflects the character and the personality of the nation. Take some examples. In Central Java, there are lot foreigners who come from USA, England, Germany and other countries who learn gamelan music. In Bali Island, Bali Island is very rich of its culture and its beautiful sceneries.  Pendet dance, Kecak dance, Barong dance etc. There are a lot of Bali temples that are be used by societies to pray. There are a lot of people from other countries who are interested in visiting Bali Island because of the cultures and nature. The foreign and domestics tourists want to stay longer in Bali. They admire the nature and the interesting culture.

           

Ladies and gentlemen whom we fully respect,

            We should learn from our experience. Recently, Malaysia has claimed that Rasa Sayange song, Pendet Dance, Barongan dance and Batik as her owns.We are very angry with this statement. As a matter of fact, they are our culture. They are Indonesian Culture. Can we imagine that one day; the Javanese people will learn gamelan and Mocopat songs from the foreigners?  Will it happen that one day we will go abroad for studying puppet?

           

Ladies and gentlemen whom we fully respect,

            I have some suggestions relating to this case. The Indonesian Government should take care of the culture. The government should preserve the culture by reporting kinds of cultures to United Nations Organization. The schools must insert traditional cultures for extra curricular activities.  As Javanese young generation, we must study the traditional songs, traditional dances, puppets, ketoprak. As the people of Central Java, we should use Java Language in our daily life.
